Hilton Worldwide Achieves Record by Opening More Properties in the Last Two Years Than Any Other Equivalent Period in Its History

Hilton Worldwide announced today that, building on the record year the company had in terms of development in 2008, the next best year in the company’s 91-year history was 2009. In 2009, despite major challenges for the hospitality industry overall, Hilton Worldwide added 302 new hotels and more than 45,000 rooms to a total count that is now more than 3,500 hotels and 585,000 rooms. In 2008, Hilton Worldwide opened 327 properties.

Doubletree by Hilton Locations in Istanbul and Cappadocia (Turkey) due to open in mid 2010

Hilton Worldwide today announced the signing of two franchise agreements for Doubletree by Hilton hotels in Turkey. One of the new hotels will be located in Istanbul and a second in Cappadocia and are anticipated to open in mid 2010. This latest announcement marks Doubletree by Hilton’s entry into the Turkish market, the continued growth of Hilton Worldwide in Europe, and the further development success of the upscale, full-service Doubletree by Hilton brand.

Home2 Suites by Hilton, the mid-tier, extended-stay hotel chain targeting value-wise business and leisure travelers, today announced the groundbreaking of its first hotel, the 119-room Home2 Suites by Hilton Fayetteville, N.C. The hotel is being developed by Alabama-based LBA Properties, a group of companies providing comprehensive hotel development and management services, on behalf of Apple Real Estate Investment Trust Companies (Apple REIT Companies). The hotel is expected to open in the 2010 fourth quarter.

Hilton Worldwide announced today that it is launching the most comprehensive iPhone and iTouch applications in the lodging industry. The company unveiled the new applications across seven hotel brands including its Conrad, Hilton, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn brands in the United States. The new applications have features that are a first for the hotel industry including a “Request Upon Arrival” service that enables a traveler to place an order for room service and have a meal in the guestroom upon arrival at the Hilton, Doubletree and Embassy Suites brands. The new applications also offer “e-check in,” a feature that provides remote check-in up to 48 hours in advance.
