Lance Armstrong to Speak at 2010 NBTA Convention

The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) announced today that world champion cyclist, cancer survivor and international activist Lance Armstrong will be featured as a keynote speaker at the 2010 NBTA International Convention & Exposition August 8-11 in Houston, TX. After surviving testicular cancer, the U.S. Olympian went on to win seven Tour de France titles, claiming his status as one of the most honored athletes in the world. Armstrong’s appearance during the Convention’s Wednesday General Session is made possible by Amadeus.

The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) and the Institute for Supply Management™ (ISM) this week welcomed 170 corporate travel, meetings and procurement professionals to the second ISM and NBTA Summit on Travel & Meetings in Tampa, Fla. With more than 25 percent growth in attendance over last year, despite a down economy, the Summit offered its attendees a unique forum for travel and meetings managers and those in procurement with supervisory oversight of travel and meetings to collaborate and share insights. Attendees were split evenly between buyers and suppliers -- making the summit unique among industry events.

Research conducted by IHS Global Insight and previewed during the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) International Convention & Exposition held last week in San Diego explores the link between changes in business travel and sales and profits. The National Business Travel Association (NBTA) today announced that Craig Banikowski, CCTE, C.P.M., CMM, Director, Global Travel Management for Hilton Hotels, will serve as the new NBTA President & CEO. Jim McMullan, Travel Manager of the Monsanto Company, will serve as the new NBTA Vice President. Banikowski and McMullan were elected by NBTA Direct Members (travel managers), and both will serve two-year terms beginning today.

Tax Report Projects U.S. Travel Costs to Be Higher After Recession

The NBTA Foundation, the education and research foundation of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), and Concur, the world's leading provider of on-demand employee spend management services, today released the updated findings of a comprehensive study of car rental, hotel and meal taxes in the top 50 U.S. travel destination cities. Compared to last year's report, the findings show that even as new travel taxes are introduced and discriminatory travel tax rates continue to rise across the country, there has been a slight decrease in actual dollars travelers pay in taxes for lodging, rental cars and meals. The decline is attributable to decreases in the average rates for those travel services across the country. As the price of a car rental, hotel, or meal drops, the percentage-based taxes on those services drop.
